Waste Catalysts

Catalytic converters are used in many fields of industrial application, in order to start or accelerate chemical reactions. Important components of catalysts are often high-quality nonferrous or even precious metals.

Catalysts have a limited life time and must be replaced periodically. Used catalysts are often contaminated with substances like hydrocarbons, sulfur or heavy metals and therefore cannot directly enter the metallurgic processes designed to recover the metals the catalysts contain.

The plants at our business location in Essen, Germany, provide various treatment options in order to process waste catalysts. For example, the catalysts can be freed of substances such as mercury, hydrocarbons or even sulfur by subjecting them to distillation or roasting processes. In addition, DELA offers customer-specific processes led in campaigns to enable a targeted treatment with special requirement profiles.
